Morandi bridge collapse: the operative part of the Genoa Court ruling

The Court of Genoa has read out the dispositivo (operative part) of its first-instance judgment in the trial over the collapse of the Morandi bridge, one of the most significant court cases of recent years on infrastructure safety and the organisational liability of companies. According to court reporting, the operative part convicts some of the defendants and, as to the others, acquits them or declares their offences time-barred.

For directors, managers and operating companies, the decision signals how much the reconstruction of decision-making flows, delegations of authority and maintenance safeguards may weigh in the allocation of criminal liability within complex organisations.
